About Pohang

Located on Korea’s eastern coast, Pohang is a city where industrial innovation and advanced science come together. As the home of POSCO, one of the world’s leading steel producers, Pohang has played a central role in Korea’s industrial development. Today, the city continues to grow as an emerging center for high-technology research, supported by POSTECH and the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory.

Beyond its research and industrial identity, Pohang offers a scenic coastal atmosphere. Yeongildae Beach provides wide ocean views within the city, Homi Cape is known as the first place to see the sunrise on the Korean peninsula, and the Space Walk—a large-scale art installation overlooking the skyline—has become a new cultural landmark representing Pohang’s creative and forward-looking spirit.

Just 30 minutes from Pohang lies Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom and a city deeply rooted in Korea’s cultural heritage. Often described as an open-air museum, Gyeongju is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, and the Gyeongju Historic Areas. The city has also gained contemporary global attention as the host city of APEC 2025, reflecting its significance as both a historic and international destination. Modern cultural areas such as Hwangnidan Street blend traditional hanok architecture with trendy cafés, restaurants, and galleries.
